Planning Analytics for Excel 32-bit Direction

By SAMI EL CHEIKH posted Fri February 18, 2022 09:31 AM

To align with IBM Planning Analytics’ overall strategy in transitioning away from 32-bit clients as seen with TM1 clients such as TM1 Architect and TM1 Perspectives, Planning Analytics for Excel is preparing to support Windows 11 this year exclusively for the 64-bit Planning Analytics for Excel client.

Microsoft Windows 11 was released in October 2021 and is the latest version of their popular operating system. One of the key differentiators of Windows 11 is that it is the only available as a 64-bit install. Windows 10, and many others before it, were also available in 32-bit varieties. While Windows 11 can still support 32-bit applications such as Microsoft Office 32-bit, there has been a gradual transition away from 32-bit architecture in favor of capacity, efficiency and performance benefits associated with 64-bit architecture. This is especially the case across data-intensive applications such as Planning Analytics for Excel, where users expect optimal performance across a spectrum of use cases.

The Planning Analytics for Excel 32-bit client will continue to be delivered and supported on Windows 10 throughout the life of the operating system for Planning Analytics Local and Planning Analytics on Cloud deployments.

Hi Sami
I note that your post does not refer to Windows 11 support for Perspectives and Architect (either as 32 or 64 bit versions). Are you in a position to clarify the expected Windows 11 support plans for these clients?
